Privacy policy

The short version: the tools run in your browser, and the lists you paste into them are never sent to us.

Last updated: August 4, 2026. This policy covers the website at pick-a-random.com.

The part that matters most

Every tool on this site — the pickers, the wheel, the generators — runs entirely inside your browser. When you press a button, no request is made to this website or to anyone else.

That means the lists you paste in are never transmitted anywhere. Class rosters, giveaway entries, names, questions, shortlists: they are processed on your device and gone when you close the tab. We do not receive them, cannot read them, cannot sell them, and have nothing to hand over if anyone asks.

You can verify this. Open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use any tool on the site. After the page finishes loading, pressing the button produces no network activity at all.

What is stored on your own device

Two things, both in your browser’s local storage, both on that one device only:

  • Saved lists. Only when you press the Save list button. Stored under a name specific to that tool, readable only by this site in that browser.
  • Your sound preference. Whether you switched the result chime on or off.

These never leave your device and are not synced between devices. You can delete them at any time with the Reset button in a tool, or by clearing site data in your browser settings.

Share links

When you press Copy share link, your list is encoded into the link itself, after the # symbol. Browsers do not send that part of a link to the server, so a shared list is not transmitted to us either.

It is, however, readable by anyone who has the link. Treat a share link like the list it contains — send it to the people who should see it, and do not post a link containing student names or entrant details publicly.

What the web server records

Like effectively every website, the server that delivers these pages keeps standard access logs. These typically include your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser type, and the page you arrived from. They are generated automatically as part of delivering a website, are used only for security and troubleshooting, and are held by the hosting provider under their own retention schedule.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, connected through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to understand which pages people find useful. Site Kit also connects Google Search Console, which reports on search terms in aggregate and does not identify individuals.

Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information including your IP address, which Google uses to derive an approximate location before discarding it, along with your device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived. That data is processed by Google and may be transferred to and stored on servers outside the Philippines.

It is used only in aggregate, to see which tools are worth improving. It is never combined with anything you type into a tool, because nothing you type into a tool ever leaves your browser.

If you would rather not be counted, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on, use your browser’s tracking protection, or block cookies for this site. None of that affects how the tools work.

Advertising

Some pages on this site carry display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can review and change your ad settings at Google Ad Centre, and manage or block cookies in your browser settings. Ads are placed outside the tool area and have no effect on any result a tool produces.

Affiliate links

This site contains no affiliate links. If that changes, it will be stated here and disclosed on the pages that carry them.

Cookies

The tools themselves set no cookies. The cookies present on this site come from Google Analytics, as described above. WordPress may also set a cookie if you leave a comment or log in as an administrator.

If you email us

When you get in touch, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you choose to include. It is used to answer you and nothing else. Messages are kept while they are useful for support and reference, and are never added to a mailing list or sold.

Please do not send real class rosters or full entry lists. We do not need them and would rather not hold them.

Children

The tools are safe for children to use, and several are built for classrooms. However, this site is not directed at children as an audience, does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and has no accounts, profiles or messaging.

Teachers: because rosters never leave the device, using these tools does not disclose student information to us or to any third party.

Your rights

Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173) you have rights to be informed, to access, to object, to erasure or blocking, to damages, to file a complaint, to rectify, and to data portability regarding personal information about you.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you comparable rights, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Where processing happens, the lawful basis is legitimate interest in operating and securing a website, or your consent where consent is required.

In practice, the amount of personal information this site holds about a visitor is very small: server logs, the analytics data described above, and any email you have chosen to send. To exercise any right, or simply to ask what is held, use the contact address below.

You may also complain to the National Privacy Commission of the Philippines, or to your local supervisory authority if you are outside the Philippines.

Changes to this policy

When this site adds a service that collects data, this policy will be updated before or at the time it goes live, and the date at the top will change. The core promise — that the tools process your lists locally and never transmit them — is a design decision rather than a preference, and is not something that will change quietly.
